Apart, We Are Together

2022

Apart, We Are Together is an interactive performance that interrogates how intimacy can flourish in the absence of physical proximity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I became acutely aware of my body's vulnerability and porousness, perceiving breath and air as simultaneously life-affirming and life-threatening. As quarantine restrictions hushed the cities, the stillness illuminated micro-movements, rendering the previously unnoticed vibrantly visible.

Many individuals reported a heightened sensory awareness, discovering details in their surroundings that had previously eluded them. Nature asserted itself with newfound clarity; birdsong occupied the aural landscape left vacant by human silence. In Apart, We Are Together, I juxtapose this keen observation with contemplations on how new relational modalities might emerge from such an experience. Here, the paradox of solitary togetherness unfolds, inviting us to reimagine connection in a world redefined by distance.
